Replacing the cell
No tools. No service centre. No waiting.
- Open the battery compartment on the lamp head.
- Lift the old cell out. Note the orientation marked inside the compartment — centre positive.
- Drop the new cell in and close the compartment.
Ten seconds, in the dark, with gloves on if it comes to that. A headlamp that needs a workshop to change a battery is a headlamp that fails you in the field.
Charging
- Charge only in the Stormlight charger supplied with the lamp, or in the lamp itself where the model supports it.
- Maximum charge current is 1,200 mA. A faster charger will shorten the life of the cell.
- Charge at room temperature. Charging a cell that is still frozen from the field degrades it — let it warm up first.
Cold weather
Every lithium-ion cell loses usable capacity in the cold. This one is no exception, and we will not claim otherwise. On long winter days, carry the spare cell in an inside pocket against your body and swap it in when the first one fades. A warmed cell recovers most of what the cold took from it.
Safety
- Do not short-circuit, crush, puncture, disassemble or incinerate.
- Do not use a cell that is damaged, dented, swollen or leaking.
- Use only in approved Stormlight products.
- Keep away from children and out of direct heat.
- Store partially charged, dry, and away from metal objects such as keys and coins.
Disposal and recycling
Lithium-ion cells do not belong in household waste. Return spent cells to a battery collection point, a recycling station, or any retailer that sells batteries. In Norway, all shops selling batteries are required to take them back free of charge. Tape over the contacts before you hand the cell in.
