"Active use" is the key. Any scenario where you're moving — snowmobile, ski tour, SAR operation, patrol — delivers enough airflow across the aluminum body to keep the LEDs at temperature indefinitely.

Stand still in still air and the lamp steps down to protect itself. This is how high-output LEDs work honestly. We built around it instead of pretending otherwise.

No boost-mode numbers. No thirty-second peaks. The 9,050 on the spec sheet is the 9,050 you get in the field.

The lamp head weighs 115 grams — the lightest flagship-class headlamp we know of. You feel it on your forehead less than you feel your beanie.

The 380-gram battery pack sits where you choose — a running vest pocket, a chest rig, the inside pocket of your shell, a jacket pocket, or in your pack. A 1.5-meter command cable gives you real freedom here — unlike 40-cm systems that force the battery onto the headband, this setup lets you keep cells warm against your body in deep cold, and keep the weight off your head entirely.

380 grams is too much for a headband. That's the point of the long cable: the battery goes where its weight disappears — the pocket, the pack, the vest — not on your forehead.

The PRO 9000 is built for two kinds of moments, and gives you a clean path between them.

When the terrain opens up — a valley at night, a search area that stretches past visible range, a snowmobile run through unlit forest — you hit 9,050 lumens and see all of it. Full output runs for an hour of continuous active use. The airflow keeps it stable.

When you're working an area, moving between tasks, or keeping the light on through a long rotation, you drop to eco. 25 hours on a single charge. That's two full winter nights, back-to-back, without plugging in.

04 — Charge while you work

Plug in a power bank. Keep going.

A USB-C port on the battery pack. Any phone charger works. Plug it into a power bank in your pack, and the lamp runs indefinitely — the battery pack charges as you use it, and if the external power runs out, you fall back to the internal 24,000 mAh without missing a step.

The same port charges your phone from the battery pack. 24,000 mAh is enough to top up a modern phone five or six times. For SAR operations that stretch past expected duration, for snowmobile trips where the day runs long, for expedition work — the lamp stops being just a lamp and becomes part of your energy system.

Triple click from any active mode enters Blink. Single click toggles to SOS. Long press 3 seconds returns to the last used white level.

A note on cold weather.

Lithium cells lose capacity in extreme cold. Every headlamp on the market does. What matters is how much, and whether the lamp still does the job when the temperature drops.

The PRO 9000 has a real advantage here: the battery pack goes where you choose. Keep it in an inside jacket pocket against your body, and cells stay warm enough to deliver close to their rated output.

At −8°C, lab testing shows ~56 minutes of full-output runtime — compared to the full hour at room temperature. Moving the battery to an inside pocket eliminates most of the loss.

For deep-cold operations — multi-day winter expeditions, arctic SAR, sustained −25°C work — an extension cable is available separately for maximum routing flexibility from jacket to lamp head.

Snowmobile operations

A snowmobile at cruising pace on an unlit trail, in the dark, in January. Speed, distance, and cold — the three conditions that break most headlamps. The PRO 9000 holds 9,050 lumens of active airflow-cooled output, gives you 5 hours of steady work-mode runtime for patrol rotations, and lets you keep the battery in your jacket where it stays warm.

This is also what Statkraft — one of Europe's largest hydropower operators — equipped crews with for winter maintenance runs between remote power stations in Norway. Ten headlamps, used through the coldest months, where visibility at snowmobile speed made the difference between reading the trail ahead and guessing at it.

ATV & utility terrain

Utility terrain vehicles in the dark — maintenance runs, patrol, reindeer herding, utility access, work that happens on four wheels between one fixed point and another. The PRO 9000 is over-engineered for this kind of work, which is exactly the point: light that reads the terrain at ATV speeds, with enough reserve that the operator stops thinking about it.

SAR operations that push past expected duration need lamps that don't force hard trade-offs. The PRO 9000 gives you full flagship output when you're covering ground at speed, drops to 25 hours of eco runtime when you're holding a position or managing a staging point, and takes external power when a power bank is available.

1.5-meter cable means the battery pack rides where it works — vest, chest rig, under the shell in extreme cold. 4× 21700 cells mean 24,000 mAh of reserve that can also charge a phone, a GPS, a radio. In a rescue context, the lamp stops being just a lamp and becomes a mobile power source.

THE SYSTEM

One Mounting Standard. Every Model In the Range.

The PRO 9000 shares the same click-release and GoPro-compatible mount as every other PRO model. Accessories you buy for the 9000 fit the 1200 and the 700. Mount infrastructure you build once covers the whole range.

Click-release on the headband

Same as PRO 3100 and smaller PRO models. Click the lamp off, onto a hard hat bracket, onto a bar or chest mount, onto any Stormlight accessory. Seconds, no tools.

Command cable — 1.5 meters standard

The cable is long by design. The PRO 9000 is built to be run with the battery pack in a running vest, chest rig, pack, or inside jacket pocket — where its 380 grams goes unnoticed, and where cold-weather users can keep lithium cells warm against their body.

For shorter setups, shorten the slack with a Velcro strap or tuck the extra length into a pocket. For routing through layered winter gear, an extension cable is available separately.

Stormlight's four-prong mount

Our own click-release design. Four prongs, deliberate press to release. Built to stay attached through vibration, impact, and cold — the failure modes that eventually break cheaper mount systems.

Every Stormlight accessory uses the same standard. Buy once, fit everything across the PRO range.

GoPro-compatible as well

The lamp head also accepts any standard GoPro mount, so whatever you already own works out of the box.

Charging, three ways

USB-C on the battery pack charges the lamp directly. Any phone charger works. With a 45W fast charger, the full 4-cell pack reaches 100% in approximately 2 hours.

And the lamp charges while in use. Plug a power bank into the battery pack during operation, and the lamp runs indefinitely. The battery pack charges as you use it — for SAR operations, multi-day expeditions, or any scenario that stretches past what a single charge covers.

The questions we get most often — answered straight, no marketing language.

Yes — and the weight is exactly the point. The 115 grams is the entire electronics package: full aluminum housing, four high-output Cree LEDs, four-lens optical system, PCB, and the IP67-rated USB-C port. The reason it's that light is that we moved the heavy part — the battery — off the head and into a separate 380-gram pack you keep in your jacket, your vest, or on your hip belt.

For an eight-hour shift, that means no neck fatigue, no headache after the work, and a lamp that still delivers 9,050 real lumens when you point it at the terrain.

Yes — that's one of the reasons the battery is external. With a 115-gram lamp head and a 380-gram pack worn on a hip belt, vest, or in a pocket, weight distribution stays low and centered. There's nothing heavy bouncing on the front of your head on rough terrain or technical sections.

The click-release on both ends of the 1.5 m command cable means you can swap mounting positions in seconds without tools.

Wide, even flood — not a tunnel-vision spot. The four-lens optical system spreads the 9,050 lumens across roughly a 15°–30° field, with no hot centre and no dead zones at the edges of your peripheral vision.

This is deliberate. For high-speed work in the dark, you need to read terrain at the edges of your field of view, not just what's directly in front of you. A spot beam at 9,050 lumens would be blinding in the centre and useless to the sides. The four-lens approach gives you the same total output spread across a beam shape that matches how your eyes actually scan terrain in motion.

Operating range is −25°C to +60°C. The full aluminum housing handles cold without issue — the question is the battery.

Lithium cells lose capacity below roughly −10°C, which is true of every battery on the market. The difference with the PRO 9000 is that the battery pack is external and the standard cable is 1.5 m. In deep cold you keep the pack inside your jacket where your body heat keeps the cells warm and the lumens where they should be. The lamp head sits on your helmet or headband; the pack stays warm; you get the rated 9,050 lumens instead of a derated number you didn't expect.

This is the practical reason the lamp head and battery are separate. It's not a design choice — it's how a high-output headlamp works honestly in real winter conditions.

Same hardware platform, same optics, same battery, same runtime. The differences are the headband colour and the warranty framework. PRO uses a different headband and operates under a separate warranty structure designed for professional and commercial use. SPORT comes with a black headband with yellow Stormlight branding and a 2-year international consumer warranty.

Pick PRO if the lamp is a tool you depend on for paid work. Pick SPORT for personal sport, recreation, and adventure.

The biggest difference is what the lumen number actually means. Most flagship headlamps at this price point are rated to ANSI/PLATO FL1 — the headlamp industry's measurement standard. FL1 measures output between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after activation, and defines runtime as the time until output drops to 10% of that initial reading.

That sounds reasonable until you understand what it allows. A high-output LED hasn't yet thermally throttled at the 30-second mark — it's still drawing peak current before the heat catches up. So a lamp can claim 10,000 lumens and a 1-hour runtime, while in practice it delivers 10,000 lumens for the first few minutes, drops to 30–50% within the first half hour, and spends most of the rated runtime delivering a fraction of the headline number. Technically compliant. Practically misleading.

We don't measure that way. Our 9,050 lumens is the output the lamp delivers at operating temperature — once the LEDs have stabilized and active airflow cooling is in steady state — and it's the output we sustain across the rated runtime on full power.

The other concrete differences:

Repairability. Every part is user-replaceable — the cable, the battery pack, the LED, the optics, the headband. No soldering, no proprietary screws, no service centre. Ten-year part availability on every model we ship.

External battery on a clean platform. Click-release on both ends, GoPro-compatible feet, command cable as a separate user-replaceable part. The lamp grows with your gear instead of being locked to one configuration.

You can find lamps with bigger headline numbers for less money. We don't compete on that. We compete on what those numbers actually deliver in your hand at −15°C three hours into a shift.

Yes. The lamp head has GoPro-compatible feet built in, so any standard GoPro mount — helmet adapter, handlebar mount, chest rig — works out of the box.

For mounting on our own click-release system, we use a four-tab connection (the GoPro standard uses two prongs). Both work. The four-tab keeps holding the day one tab breaks, which is the practical reason we engineered it that way.

Helmet brackets, handlebar adapters, and additional accessories are coming this autumn.

Yes, in carry-on. The 9,800 mAh / 7.4V pack works out to about 72 Wh, well under the 100 Wh limit for lithium-ion batteries in cabin baggage on every major airline. Always pack it in your carry-on, never in checked luggage — that's the rule for any lithium battery, not specific to ours.

One note: most airlines limit you to two spare lithium-ion batteries between 100–160 Wh, but rules below 100 Wh are more relaxed. The PRO 9000 pack sits comfortably in the relaxed zone, but if you're travelling with multiple battery packs, check your airline's specific policy in advance.
